Uthayakumar woke up to a rude shock this morning - all four tyres of his Volvo were slashed. The Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) legal adviser filed a police report on the matter at 8.50am. He alleged that the act was done by the “Umno leadership and/or their agents”. “All four of my car tyres were slashed with a vengeance. I suspect the Umno leadership and/or their agent in my next block,” he said in the report. Uthayakumar, who resides in Tivolli Villa, Bangsar, claimed that the ‘agent’ had been spying on him for the past eight months. “I’ve seen him jogging around and he drives a car.
He is a special branch officer,” he said when contacted later.
Uthayakumar said he informed the police to check the CCTV recordings to determine who had slashed the tyres. Wants to meet PM The lawyer became an overnight celebrity following a mass rally organised by Hindraf on Nov 25. Prior to this, Uthayakumar, his brother and Hindraf chairperson Waythamoorthy and another lawyer VS Ganapathi Rao were arrested under the Sedition Act.
Hindraf has also filed a lawsuit against the British government for bringing Indians to Malaysia as indentured labourers and exploiting them for 150 years. Uthayakumar recently said that they would continue to fight for their rights until someone listens to their grievances. He has expressed hope to meet Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi by Sunday. However, the premier has accused the movement of stirring up racial sentiments.
